While Vanessa Claspill may be new to many in the trade show community, her impressive track record in hospitality leadership makes her a powerhouse addition to the destination marketing landscape.  

Recently named chief sales officer for the LVCVA after nearly two decades of hotel sales leadership, Claspill brings a strategic vision that bridges property-level insights with global destination marketing. Her experience across multiple brands—from Crescent Hotels and Resorts to Davidson Hospitality Group—has equipped her with a unique perspective on what trade show organizers need from a destination partner.

Tormohlen: Your career path has taken you through various hospitality leadership roles. Was there a pivotal moment or mentor in your early life that first sparked your interest in this industry?

Claspill: In the beginning of my career, I was working as a catering sales manager when I realized just how dynamic and meaningful this industry truly is. Hospitality isn’t about selling a product—it’s about delivering experiences that are often tied to life’s most joyful or transformative moments, from intimate celebrations to milestone events. That insight was pivotal for me. I saw how no two days were the same, and that this was an industry constantly evolving. It also became clear that hospitality could be a passport to the world, connecting me to new destinations and cultures. That aligned perfectly with my own sense of adventure and desire for continuous discovery. Choosing this profession has been the best decision I’ve ever made—it has more than given back to me, both personally and professionally. 

Tormohlen: You studied Political Science and Communications at Phillips University. How have these seemingly unrelated fields shaped your approach to leadership and relationship-building in hospitality? 
Claspill: I originally studied Political Science because I thought I wanted to run political campaigns. That interest gave me an early appreciation for strategy, influence, and the power of messaging. Political Science taught me how systems work, how to negotiate, and how to think critically in high-stakes environments. Communications, on the other hand, provided the foundation to build trust, inspire teams, and articulate a clear vision. Interestingly, there are more parallels between the two disciplines than one might expect—both require the ability to read a room, influence outcomes, and bring diverse stakeholders together around a common goal. In hospitality, relationships are the currency. These foundations have enabled me to foster authentic connections and drive purposeful, collaborative success.

Tormohlen: Beyond professional achievements, what personal values or principles have remained constant throughout your career journey? 
Claspill: Integrity and empathy. I believe in doing the right thing, even when it’s not easy, and treating people with genuine respect. Whether working with clients, partners, or teams, I’ve found that leading with transparency and heart creates a culture where people feel valued and perform at their best. Those values have been my compass. 

Tormohlen: Las Vegas has a unique energy and culture. What aspects of the city resonate most with your own personality? 
Claspill: Las Vegas is bold, unapologetically innovative, and always evolving—those qualities resonate deeply with me. I’ve always embraced reinvention, pushed for what’s possible, and taken pride in creating moments that matter. This city thrives on ambition and connection, both of which are at the core of how I lead and live. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this community.

Tormohlen: Hotel Management Magazine recently recognized you as one of 2025's Influential Women in Hospitality. Looking back at your younger self, what advice would you give her about navigating this industry? 
Claspill: I would tell her: “Stay curious, stay courageous.” Don’t wait to feel 100% ready—raise your hand, take the shot, and find your seat at the table. The path isn’t linear, and that’s okay. Relationships matter more than titles, and grace under pressure will take you far. And always, always bring others with you as you rise.
